I won’t blather on because we all want to enjoy our Easter Sunday, but I wanted to share a poem with you all. It’s a poem that has to do with running, too, which doesn’t sound so appealing on the morning most of us are stuffing ourselves with Easter candy, chocolate, scones, and coffee, but I think the meaning won’t be lost on you.

The Race
What would make you run? To, not from.
What would make you fly in hope beneath the rising sun?
What would make you hurry through the hills & trees?
What would make you race,
Oh race the morning breeze?
Would it be a battle charge
To fend off hate & tyranny?
Would it be to share the news
In the fashion of Pheidippides?
Would it be the victor’s laurels?
Would it be a crown of gold?
Would it be a pining lover
You seek to kiss & hold?
Would it be to come around
The bend to catch a sight
Of setting sun beyond horizons
The pain of beauty’s flight?
Or would it be to race a brother,
To stumble ‘pon that empty tomb?
Where all your hopes before had died
Where Life broke forth from death’s dark womb.
For here the battle charge,
For here the greatest news,
For here the crown & laurels,
Th’ enemy can’t dispute.
For here the reckless lover,
For here the kiss of life,
For here the greatest beauty
That passes not to night.
Hear the singing dawn,
Hear the beating drum,
Hear the hallelujah,
Hear angelic song.
What do you seek? He is not here,
Your race has just begun.
